Morgan Yazzie, 45, Arizona, Navajo Nation by Phil Borges

Morgan Yazzie, 45, Arizona, Navajo Nation

Morgan, a Navajo medicine man, said his calling came 12 yrs ago while having a stroke. Tears formed in his eyes as he related how his legs froze up, became numb and his whole body went into tetany. Curled into a fetal position, he began having hallucinations and felt the spirits called him to be medicine man. His friend Sam Begay, a medicine man, was called to do a ceremony for him. By the next day Morgan could walk again.
