Girl and Shawl, India by Lisa Kristine

Girl and Shawl, India

Theravada Buddhism is the predominant religion of ethnic Khmer, representing 90 percent of the Cambodian population. Women are not ordained, but older women, especially widows, can become nuns. They live in wats, or temples, shave their heads and eyebrows, and generally follow the same precepts as monks.
